It is with great pleasure that I write on the occasion of Rosh Hashanah 2013 to wish the Jewish Community Shana Tova and a happy New Year.
Rosh Hashanah is a time to come together with families and community in anticipation of the year ahead. It also allows us to reflect on the year that has passed and look to the future, especially at how we can assist those in our community who may need extra care or assistance.
The sounding of the shofar is the great catalyst for this reflection. In its powerful roar it concentrates the mind on these tasks and gives us the motivation to work harder in the year ahead.
At this, the holiest time of the year in Judaism, I am grateful for the contribution made to our great state by our diverse Jewish community. Across the fields of business, philanthropy, education and charity, the Jewish community of Victoria has made a difference to the social fabric of our state going back to its very foundation.
I take this opportunity to wish you and your family a sweet year; may it be filled with health and happiness.
