The World Jewish Congress has asked Sydney-based Robert Goot to establish a WJC task force on responses to antisemitism.

The aim of the task force is to examine, monitor, assess, recommend, assist and coordinate responses to antisemitism amongst the affiliated communities, organisations and regions of the WJC.

It will provide strategies and actions to assist communities with best practice ideas and, where appropriate,  coordination at this time of unprecedented challenge for global Jewry.

Robert Goot is the deputy president of The Executive Council of Australian Jewry, affiliated with the WJC.

Robert Goot said: “It is an honour and a privilege to be tasked with such an important mission during one of the most challenging times we have faced as a community and as a people. Since October 7, there has been an unprecedented increase in the number of antisemitic incidents across the world.

This task force will canvass the WJC’s member organisations, WJC regional bodies and other relevant bodies, to examine the extent of initiatives, activities and best practices adopted to combat the unprecedented growth of antisemitism in all its manifestations since October 7 in order to formulate its recommendations for activities, programs and assistance to member organisations.”

Executive Committee of the WJC announced the appointment at its meeting in Jerusalem.
