The Australian-Turkish community has condemned the recent acts of violence and vandalism targeting Jewish places of worship.

And the The New South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies has sent a message of support following anti-Muslim messages were daubed in western Sydney.

In a statement, the community commented: “These hateful acts have no place in our society and are an affront to the shared values of peace, respect, and unity that underpin our multicultural nation.

We know too well the pain and fear these actions cause, having experienced similar attacks on our mosques and community centres. We, too, have woken up to find our sacred spaces and neighbourhoods defaced with hateful graffiti and banners intended to intimidate and isolate us. The anguish of these moments lingers, and our hearts break for our fellow Jewish Australians who are now enduring this same violation of their safety and dignity.

To our fellow Jewish-Australians, please know that we stand with you. No one in this country should have to live in fear because of their faith, ethnicity, or heritage. Your right to live freely and without threat is a right we all cherish and will defend.

Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time. Together, as a united community, we must continue to stand against hatred in all its forms and work toward a future where such acts of bigotry are no longer a reality.”

The Muslim community has experienced race hatred, with the ABC reporting a railway bridge in the Sydney suburb of Chester Hill had been daubed with the words:”F##k Islam” and “Cancel Islam”.

David Ossip, the president of The New South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies, said: “The NSW Jewish community unreservedly condemns the anti-Islam graffiti which was daubed onto an underpass in Chester Hill overnight.

The graffiti was hateful, deeply offensive and would have understandably caused distress to the Islamic community.

A bigoted attack on any group of Australians is an attack on all of us.

We extend our support to the Islamic community and have been in touch with Australian National Imams Council to express our condemnation of this incident directly.”
