Lucy Dee died of injuries from the drive-by shooting, the Hadassah University Hospital-Ein Kerem announced on Monday.

The 48-year-old British-Israeli national was the third fatality from a Palestinian drive-by shooting in the northern Jordan Valley on Friday. Also killed in the attack were two daughters, Maya and Rina, ages 20 and 16 respectively.

The sisters were laid to rest on Sunday.

The car was found riddled with bullet holes near the Hamra Junction. Lucy, who was driving, lost control of the car and crashed into another vehicle. Investigators found 22 bullet casings at the scene. The girls’ father, Rabbi Leo Dee, was driving ahead in a separate car with two other children. The rabbi turned his car around and returned to the scene when he heard about the attack.

Lucy, Rina and Maya Dee

The family moved to Israel from London nine years ago, where her husband, Rabbi Leo Dee, had worked in synagogues.

Lucy taught English at Efrat’s Yeshivat B’nai Akiva Orot Yehuda School.

Rachel Schwartz, a resident of Efrat, told the Tazpit Press Service on Sunday she got to know Leah during their time at Milabev, a daycare facility for seniors with dementia and Alzheimers in nearby Alon Shvut. Schwartz, a therapist at the facility, recalled that Dee was a volunteer at the centre for a year until the COVID pandemic.

“There isn’t a nicer kinder family. An amazing and incredible mother who would do anything for her children,” Schwartz told TPS. “Anyone who volunteers to work with seniors who have dementia or Alzheimers is pretty amazing.”

The manhunt for the terrorists is focusing on the area around Jericho.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.

Zionism Victoria condemned these deplorable and heinous acts of terror and pray for a speedy recovery for all those injured.

Among those killed were an Italian tourist in Tel Aviv and two British-Israeli sisters and their mother from Efrat.

Originally from London, the Dee family have relatives within our own community here in Melbourne.

Zionism Victoria President Yossi Goldfarb said, “Our hearts weep for those that have passed away and the loved ones left behind.

“Every year on Yom Hazikaron as we honour those who have fallen in defence of Israel or slaughtered in acts of terror, those with ties to our own community are at the forefront of our minds.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Lucy, Maia and Rina at this time. May their memories be for a blessing.”

President Isaac Herzog said: “How much we hoped, how much we prayed, but tragically Leah, mother of Rina and Maia of blessed memory, who was fatally wounded in the terror attack in the Jordan Valley, has died of her injuries. On behalf of the entire people of Israel, I send my warmest condolences to the Dee family and pray that they will know no more sorrow. May her memory be a blessing.”

Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth, Efraim Mirvis, tweeted: “Our indescribable pain has reached yet greater depths today with news of the passing of Rebbetzen Lucy Dee.

I vividly recall being welcomed so graciously by Lucy into her home in Radlett, where she & Rabbi Dee were passionately & lovingly engaged in enriching people’s lives through education, inspiration and acts of kindness.

May the memories of Lucy, Maya and Rina Dee z”l be for an eternal blessing and may their dear family be comforted in their unspeakable loss.
