The on-off appointment of Rabbi Meir Kluwgant as principal of Melbourne’s Adass Israel school is over.

Rabbi Meir Shlomo Kluwgant

Originally, Rabbi Kluwgant was reported as being made the school’s principal but the position was renamed as a consultant. But Adass has announced Rabbi Kluwgant’s resignation.

A reliable source told J-wire in a letter sent to members of the Adass community secretary Abe Weiszberger that the Adass schools accepted Rabbi Kluwgant’s resignation.

Recently a victim of child sexual abuse had recorded an interview in which she expressed her concerns of his appointment.

There is no suggestion that Rabbi Kluwgant himself was involved in sexual abuse.

He is reported that Rabbi Kluwgant resigned because he did not wish to cause any pain for any any sexual abuse victims.

Child sexual abuse advocate Manny Waks said: “On behalf of several victims of child sexual abuse and other members of the community, I welcome the news that the Addas Israel School Board and (Rabbi) Meir Shlomo Kluwgant are parting ways.

J-Wire has requested comments from Rabbi Kluwgant and Adass.
