Rabbi Alon Hazi enjoys a cigarette and the news that the filters may contain elements derived from pigs does not phase him one bit.

Rabbi Levi Wolff

The Sydney-based backpackers’ rabbi told J-Wire: “I am halachically convinced that there is nothing wrong in smoking tobacco through a filter  that may have ingredients from pigs in its manufacture….as long as you only smoke the cigarette and don’t eat it.”

Rabbi Levi Wolff, spiritual leader of Central Synagogue,  Sydney’s largest congregation, told J-Wire: “This is Hashem’s way of giving us a divine warning that smoking is bad for your health.”

The Yeshiva Centre’s Rabbi Eli Feldman added: “We have a lot of rabbinical students and openly discourage the practice of smoking. It is simply not allowed on the premises.”
