Auckland community stalwart Freda Narev has been awarded the Queen’s Service Medal…

Freda Narev

She follows her husband Bob in being recognised by New Zealand for service to the community.

Bob Narev told J-Wire: “We were quite surprised and humbled by this award but Freda is a worthy recipient.”

Freda Narev’s activities include:

Voluntary work for the Jewish Community:

Hebrew School teaching on Sunday mornings  1957-59 & 72-79
Synagogue Women’s Guild  about 5 years
Past organiser of support for Russian Immigrants
Jewish Oral History Project co-ordinator with Claire Bruell  about 10 years
Founder with husband Bob and coordinater of Senior Outreach Service for Jewish elderly (www. outreachworker.org.nz.)
Shalom Court Retirement Home committee member 18 years: Residents’ Advocate since 2009

Wider Community
NZ Marriage Guidance Council                  20 years :     Counsellor and Supervisor
NZ Association Citizens Advice Bureaux     18 years :   Trainer, Training Advisor and Bureau Interviewer
Home and Family Society                            Counsellor, Coordinator of Volunteers

Bob and Freda’s son Ian is the CEO of the Commonwealth Bank
