Qantas meets with AIJAC
Qantas Managing Director & CEO Mr Alan Joyce has met with AIJAC National Chairman Mr Mark Leibler AC and Dr Colin Rubenstein AM Executive Director AIJAC in Melbourne.
The Qantas chief requested the meeting.
Mr Leibler said that the purpose of the meeting was to secure further clarification from Qantas regarding security concerns implicit in its proposed plans to form a partnership with Emirates Airlines and the consequent use of Dubai International Airport as its transit hub through to European destinations.
Mr Leibler welcomed the reassurances given by Joyce on behalf of Qantas to the Australian Jewish community and Israeli passport holders regarding transit through UAE during the meeting.
He said AIJAC was liaising with the Australian Government about this major concern toward encouraging the United Arab Emirates Government to make a clear public statement setting out its position.
Dr Rubenstein also welcomed the attention and consideration that Qantas is devoting to our community’s concerns and together with Mr Leibler expressed confidence that further progress could be made to enhance safety and security considerations for all passengers, including Australian as well as Israeli passport holders, transiting through Dubai.
Why is AIJAC communicating with Qantas in this regard? AIJAC is a privately funded organisation that is not representative of the Jewish community. Unlike the JCCV, NSWJBD, SZC or even the ADC, there is no general franchise and, as such, AIJAC is not accountable to any substantial segment of the community, other than to those few individuals who fund it. This issue with Qantas is one that the ECAJ, as the legitimate and sole representative of the community, should be handling.

Who cares who’s handling it anyhow?
As long as it’s handled.
This is one thing that bugs me to death about the Jewish Community, someone always thinks they know better
Every one including our esteemed Jewish community leadership is ignoring the bloody principle of the whole thing.
Should we Jews be supporting, condoning a country in this case an ARab country [ Emirates is owned by UAE} that discriminates against Israeli Jews. The fact is if you have an Israeli passport and you are Jewish these racist Arabs will not allow you entry into their country .
Israel/ELAL do not discriminate against any ARab or Muslim country or its nationals, they may have extra security procedures but they are allowed entry.
The questions we have to ask is would Qantas go into partnership with an airline that discriminated against Arabs or Muslims or against any other ethnic minority, of course they wouldn’t.
So we are accepting as our lot in life that our Jewish cousins in israel should be singled out ?
Forget if they would want to go inside the UAE at least they should be treated like any one else.
By Qantas going into partnership with this countries airline they are in fact condoning this racist discriminatory policy of UAE/ Emirates
