Speakers at the State Zionist Council of NSW reception for Israeli Major General Elazar Stern were not phased by competition from outside the Sydney venue by pro-Palestinian protestors.

Protestors

The chanting of oft heard slogans and rants were ignores as SZCNSW president Richard Balkin and former president Dr Ron Weiser addressed their audience.

Major General Stern shared many anecdotes with his audience before speaking on the issues concerning the determination of the Jewishness of refugees from the former Soviet bloc. The message the retired former Chief of Manpower in the IDF  sends is that a democracy can only survive side by side with religious political entities only if either side is willing to bend a little.

The meeting was attended and addressed by Israel’s ambassador to Australia, Yuval Rotem. The protesters numbered around 15.
