Previously, Mr Secord was Labor’s Shadow Roads MInister.

He was promoted on Friday in a reshuffle by NSW Labor leader John Robertson.

Mr Secord retained the position of Shadow Minister for the North Coast and was also given Shadow Minister for Liquor Regulation.

“I am delighted by the appointment and look forward to developing policies and plans to improve our State’s hospitals and health system and reduce waiting lists for hip and knee replacements and cataract procedures. NSW has the longest elective surgery waiting lists in mainland Australia,” Mr Secord said.

“Health and responding to our nation’s ageing population are among the biggest challenges facing State governments in Australia and the NSW health system is one of the largest government departments in NSW with a budget of $19.9 billion in 2014-15.”

Mr Secord worked at the Australian Jewish News from 1988 to 1991 and was elected to NSW Parliament’s Legislative Council in 2011.
