President Rivlin celebrates his 80th birthday
Israel’s President Reuven Rivlin on Monday celebrated his 80th birthday. The celebrations were lower-key and bittersweet as they occurred only a few weeks after his wife Nechama passed away.
Born in Jerusalem just days after the Second World War commenced, Rivlin is the scion of a family that came to Israel at the beginning of the 19th century. He has four children and nine grandchildren.
Rivlin, who has served as Israel’s president for the past five years, is celebrating his birthday with members of the IDF’s Commando Brigade and IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi whom he is visiting with.
Rivlin prefers to celebrate his birthday on the Jewish date, the 25th of Elul, which will be marked at the end of the month.
However, he posted a short clip about “the President in the numbers” with the text: “Some say I’m celebrating a birthday today. Well darlings, I’m saying this 80th birthday is a great opportunity to catch some morning sun on the patio.”
