President Herzog lights the 8th candle with hostage families
President Isaac Herzog lit the eighth candle of Chanukah last night at “Hostage Square” in Tel Aviv with the families of hostages held by Hamas terrorists in Gaza.
The president told the families: “Chanukah is a holiday of heroism, and I want to talk about the heroism of the hostages. Of their supreme bravery. I wish to offer them strength, from here we send them love, encouragement, reinforcement and support, and tell them: you will return home safely.
The festival of Chanukah is also a holiday of mutual responsibility. All of Israel are responsible for one other, and indeed, our soldiers are acting with bold determination, heroically, risking and sacrificing their lives to defeat the enemy and to bring the hostages home.”
He told them that there is a huge Israeli effort to return the hostages home.
He added: “We are facing a bitter, cruel, sophisticated, cynical enemy. So part of the campaign is knowing how to face them, and knowing that at the end of the day, both military and other actions will bring them home.
Most of all, Chanukah is a holiday of miracles.
As we say, “a great miracle happened here”. And with God’s help and brave actions, we will see a great miracle and the hostages will return home.”
