Police are investigating an assault and stabbing in Caulfield North on Saturday night.

Police said investigators have been told a man and woman were standing outside an address on Inkerman Street just before 7.30pm when an unknown man approached them without speaking and hit the 22-year-old man and cut the 25-year-old woman on the shoulder and cheek with an unknown object before walking away.

The woman has been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the man was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The couple was a brother and sister. Reports stated that security had been heightened during Shavuot.

A police spokesperson told J-Wire today: “The investigation will take into account all aspects but at this stage there is no evidence to suggest the attack was racially motivated.”
