PM misses Holocaust Memorial
New Zealand Prime Minister John Key lost his opportunity to visit the Berlin Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe due to a cancelled flight.
A spokesman for Mr Key told J-Wire: “Unfortunately our flight to London to connect with our flight home to New Zealand got cancelled, so we had to go straight to the airport to catch another flight to make that connection.”
Mr Key’s mother fled her native Vienna with her immediate family who settled in New Zealand. The Prime Minister, who is not a practising Jew told media that his mother never spoke about the Holocaust but he knew she lost family members. He added that the planned visit to the memorial was “for Mum”.
