PLO Central Committee demands Abbas renounces recognition of Israel
A source in the PLO has told TPS that the PLO Central Committee is pressuring its Executive Committee and its chairman, Abu Mazen, to renounce recognition of Israel before the end of the year of time that Abu Mazen had given Israel to withdraw from the Judea and Samaria.
Abu Mazen (Mahmoud Abbas) made this declaration at a recent speech before the UN.
According to the source, who is a member of a PLO organization, in recent years, on at least four separate occasions, the Executive Committee has decided to withdraw at least from the recognition of Israel and the agreements that have been signed with it. But Abu Mazen has declined to implement these decisions.
The Central Council of the Palestinian umbrella organization, he tells TPS, now demands that the decisions of the Executive Committee be implemented immediately.
The Central Council is a body whose role is to coordinate between the Executive Committee and the Palestinian National Council, which has not been active in recent years.
Last week, Dalal Salameh, a member of Fatah’s Central Committee, demanded that Abu Mazen not wait for the period of time that he gave Israel to withdraw from the listed territories and that he should initiate widespread protests now.
Referring to the content of Abu Mazen’s speech at the UN, Salameh said, “The sword of agreements will no longer be placed on the necks of the Palestinians and they must choose a strategy of widespread popular protest.”
Salameh admits in an interview with the media that “the armed struggle was an important struggle, but now the Palestinians must take into account international circumstances and the need to legitimize their struggle and expand the popular struggle in Israel.”
According to her, Abu Mazen’s speech was intended to sound alarms and illustrate the fact that the PA is losing hope alongside the culture that is undermining the chances of establishing an independent Palestinian state.”
The PA, like Hamas, is committed to Israel’s disappearance, “recognition” or no recognition.
