Pesach in Sydney
NSW Liberal politician David Clarke has once again bought the chometz from Sydney Yeshiva’s Rabbi Pinchus Feldman…and a 12-yr-old boy has delivered a siyum.
The siyum marked the end of a year-long period of concentrated study of a tractate from the Talmud by 12-yr-old Menachem Mendel Cohen son of Newtown Synagogue’s Rabbi Eli Cohen.
The Siyum is normally made by a rabbi or by a learned adult but those attending the Yeshiva this morning were caught by surprise to have it made by someone so young.
Rabbi Dovid Slavin told J-Wire “You go to shul to hear a siyum on erev Pesach particularly if you are a firstborn (Bechor) so you will be able to partake in the feast at the conclusion of the study – and
then be exempted from fasting on the day G-d killed all Egyptian firstborn and spared the Jewish firstborn.
Rabbi Slavin added: Mendel is a credit to his parents a credit to his school.
Also visiting the Yeshiva’s Rabbi Pinchus Feldman this week was NSW Liberal politician David Clarke continuing his annual practice of buying the chometz.
