Shimon Peres

After 24 hours of evaluating the Ninth President Mr. Peres, I can say that he is still in a pretty tough condition. But he is stable and we see some improvement. He is conscious, he’s awake. We are trying to reduce some of the sedation in order to evaluate him, and that’s a good sign. We will keep on evaluating him continuously in the neurosurgery intensive care unit. He is still on a respirator and on sedation. He is stable in terms of all other parameters. In the next 24 hours we will update you again, and I hope that the dynamics of improvement will continue. What I can say is that, even though we are still waiting, there is improvement and that is good.”

Prof. Rafi Walden: “I have just come from the bedside of Ninth President Shimon Peres after we intentionally lowered his dose of anesthetic drugs. I am pleased to say that he understands what is being said to him, is responsive, and even warmly squeezed my hand. We are impressed by the way the state of his recognition has improved considerably in the last few hours. We will continue to sedate him in order to ease his breathing and prevent him from getting upset about the things that are happening around him, which may raise his blood pressure – not because it is required neurologically. The very mild anesthesia allows him to rest completely and provides optimal conditions for his brain to recover.

As his family’s representative and a member of the Shiba Medical Center – We are extremely grateful for the excellent treatment he is receiving, along with the huge waves of love that are coming to us from around the country and around the world. The positive attention and well wishes that we are receiving help to strengthen the family in these difficult times and show that we are not alone.
