Paquin up for Golden Globes

New Zealand actress Anna Paquin has been nominated for a Golden Globe award for her portrayal of a woman who rescued about 2500 Jewish children in WWII.

Irena Sendler was a Polish social worker who smuggled the children out of the Warsaw Ghetto. Her story was told in the TV movie “The Courageous Heart” and she was played by Paquin.

The 27-year-old actress was born in Winnipeg, Canada but moved with her family to Wellington when she was four. At the age of eleven, Paquin won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “The Piano”.

“The Courageous Heart” sees her nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Made for Television. Paquin has also been nominated for Best Actress in the vampire movie “Sookie Stackhouse”.
