Our Big Shul remembers Poway
Our New Shul at Bondi’s Harry Triguboff Centre held a Friday evening service in solidarity with Chabad of Poway which was attacked by a sole gunman at the end of Passover.
Rabbi Dr Dovid Slavin told J-Wire: “Chabad of Poway called upon the Jewish world to ‘fill the synagogues’ to show that we will not be intimidated from coming to our houses of worship.
The evening began with a candle lighting ceremony, in memory of 60-yr-old Lori Kaye of blessed memory (Leah Bat Reuven) whose life was cut short in last Shabbat’s attack in California.
The candle lighting was followed by a meditation let by Rabbi Zevi Slavin.”
The service was attended by special guest who all made time on very short notice including Dr Kerryn Phelps MP, Mr Ron Hoenig Member for Heffron, Mr Tim Murray who is contesting the seat of Wentworth, and Mr Andrew Bragg who is running for the Senate as a Liberal, as well as a letters of support, received from Gabrielle Upton & Dave Sharma.
The service was followed by a Kiddush prepared by OBK
Rabbi Slavin added: “This is a time to stand tall and united with good people from all backgrounds and political persuasions, as we see here tonight. We are blessed to live in Australia where we can count on political leaders to stand with us.”
