When the NSW Counter Disaster Unit flew out to aid the search and rescue for survivors in Christchurch, they took with them biscuits, toys and toiletries from Our Big Kitchen.

The Bondi-based commercial kitchen produced thousands of biscuits using bakers from all denominations across the wider community. OBK Director Rabbi Dovid Slavin told J-Wire: “They also took with them cards of support written by children from the wider community to be distributed to Christchurch’s juvenile population.”

New South Wales responded to the appeal for help from across the Tasman sending Fire, Police and Ambulance crews to assist. Rabbi Slavin added: “Our Big Kitchen is directly linked to the Counter Disaster Unit and recognised by the State Government as a support unit. We are proud that we are able to help and will continue to do all we can.”

Counter Disaster NSW’s director Rosemary Hegner and one of her officers picked up the consignment personally.
