A spokesperson for the new groups told J-Wire: “Too often funerals are held at the Chevra Kadisha for people who have little or no family to attend and an effort must be made to find a minyan in order to give the proper Kovod to the deceased.

We have created the groups in order to assist in this effort. Those to available to assist when the need arises by attending a funeral or burial at short notice should subscribe to one
or both of the groups in order to be notified.

For WhatsApp – Add Michael Berkovits 0423 591 016 to your contacts then send a WhatsApp message asking to be added to the group – if you don’t add 0423 591 016 as a contact you won’t receive the message

For Facebook – Go to facebook.com/groups/chesed.sydney and join this group

What a naff idea. When women are treated with equality in the orthodox community and they’re counted as one of the ten people needed – I’d be happy to add my name to the list of Jews willing to ‘give a proper Kavod to the deceased.
