One Life: J-Wire invites Kindertransport evacuees and their descendants to a special preview
J-Wire invites readers and/or their descendants to a special preview of Emile Sherman’s One Life, the story of Nicky Winton’s unforgettable mission to rescue children from Nazi Europe through his Kindertransport.
Transmission Films have announced a very special preview screening of the magnificent film ONE LIFE at 6.30pm on Monday December 11 at the Randwick Ritz, with special guests, including Academy-Award winning producer Emile Sherman, and Kindertransport survivors and descendants.
This special event will be hosted by journalist, broadcaster and descendant Caroline Baum and is presented by J-Wire.
ONE LIFE tells the inspiring true story of Sir Nicholas ‘Nicky’ Winton, played by Academy-Award-winning actor Anthony Hopkins, whose unsung endeavours on the eve of World War II saved more than 600 children from their doom at the hands of the Nazis. Nicky considered himself a banker, not a humanitarian. Yet when he visited a recently annexed Prague in 1938 and saw the state of the fleeing Jewish refugees, he did what he believed was the right thing to do – the thing that anyone would do – and dedicated himself to the cause. War was approaching, and it was a race against time. How many children could he liberate before it ran out?
Fifty years later, it’s 1988, and Nicky is haunted by the fate of the children he wasn’t able to help. It’s not until he’s surprised by the survivors on live television that he can accept that when facing devastating atrocities, saving even one life is a victory, and the British public learns the truth about the hero hidden in their midst.
This is a story of dedication, humanity and survival, delivering the message that saving even one life is a victory.
ONE LIFE also stars Johnny Flynn as the young Nicholas Winton and Helena Bonham Carter.

To learn from the Kindertransport, and Sir Nicholas Winton’s story, we need to educate our children about the values of kindness, inclusivity, and the core elements that help to shape young people’s lives into successful members of our diverse multicultural communities.
