On the other hand

This year’s celebrations of Sukkot will be rather surreal in Israel.

The flimsy structures that characterize this pilgrim festival are already constructed in homes the length and breadth of the country. They are also appearing in IDF bases and on the front as soldiers continue their battle against terrorist infrastructure.

These tabernacles remind us of life’s frailty and Divine protection.

How apt, given the fact that our enemies continue to hurl missiles, rockets and drones in our direction every day.

TRUTH WINS

It can be hard to break years of brainwashing, but occasionally, some individuals manage to discover the truth.

ONLY IN ISRAEL

Almost every day reveals events and moments which are “only in Israel” experiences. They cannot be replicated anywhere else in the world. They exemplify the unique spirit of a restored Jewish sovereignty in the Land we were promised at the dawn of our history.

It is truly an awesome privilege to be part of this historic journey.

Here are some examples of what makes Israel unique.

  • In the midst of a war against terror, soldiers of the IDF sing prayers of praise and inspiration. In what other army would this occur?

  • While the sirens wail and citizens gather in air raid shelters they recite selichot (penitential prayers) prior to Rosh Hashanah.

  • After a massive barrage of missiles from Iran which miraculously caused minimal damage and no loss of life locals gather around a downed missile and pose to take photos. Note the size of the missile.

  • Kibbutz Yizreel is home to many Australians, New Zealanders and South Africans. It is a hub of rugby players and supporters. Where else but in Israel would rugby teams pause during practice in order to hear the shofar being blown during the lead up to Rosh Hashanah?
