On the other hand
Rockets from Gaza are raining down on Israeli communities in the south of the country…writes Michael Kuttner.
While those touted as “peace seekers” display their real destructive intentions we remain dedicated to creating, healing and improving the lives of all people everywhere.
HEALING BROKEN HEARTS
Twenty Rwandan children suffering from severe heart diseases are coming to Israel to undergo heart surgery, on the partnership of Ministry of Health and Save a Child Heart Foundation.
The Save Child’s Heart team will screen 70 children at Kigali Teaching Hospital, 20 among them with severe cases; they will be immediately transferred to Israel with all costs covered.
Save a Child’s Heart Foundation is an Israeli nongovernmental organisation with the mission of improving the quality of pediatric cardiac care for children in developing countries and creating centres of competence in this part of the world.
After this mission the idea is to equip the cardiology ward with machines and other cardiology equipment for heart diseases treatment and deploy one permanent cardiologist so that the ward can function at 50 per cent and can sustain itself.
In five years, the foundation will help Rwanda to set up a pediatric cardiology centre which they believe will help to cut a big budget which was spent on transferring these kids abroad, and save as many as possible.
Two general practitioners are soon coming to Israel to receive training on how to treat pediatric heart diseases.
GERM WARFARE
An Israeli startup says it has developed particles that, when infused into a surface, kill germs as they land on that surface.
The technology will help fight bacterial infectious diseases, which account for 15 percent of global deaths.
The startup is seeking to use its technology initially in the dental industry, creating materials for dental fillings or so-called dental restorations. Caries (tooth decay) are caused by the effect of acids produced by sugary food on the enamel surface of teeth. The acid is produced when sugars react with bacteria present in the dental plaque on the tooth surface.
Tooth decay is the most common chronic infection in the world. Composite restorations (tooth-colored fillings) are very popular but fail mainly because new caries form at the restoration margins. About two-thirds of procedures are replacements of failed earlier restorations. FDA approval is expected by the first quarter of 2019.
HELPING UGANDA
The collaboration between Israel and Uganda is not limited to medical supplies but has been extended to capacity building, including the ongoing works at the Intensive Care Unit for Mulago National Referral Hospital. The Israeli medical volunteers have been in Uganda for a long time and their support for the health care system is much appreciated, said the Ugandan Minister of Health recently.
THE SPIRIT WHICH BUILT ISRAEL
Holocaust survivors have contributed immensely to Israel’s development. Refusing to succumb to despair they harnessed their creativity to help produce the miracle called Israel innovation.
