“The avocados have arrived.”

That is the message we look forward to receiving every week when a fresh crop of organic avocados are delivered to a central collection point in our town.

Since the pogrom of 7 October, farmers in the south have been struggling to survive the devastation caused by Hamas terrorists and the absence of foreign workers. Large numbers of volunteers from overseas, Jews and Christians alike, together with Israeli teenagers and adults have stepped into the breach. They are harvesting crops, weeding and planting so that farmers’ businesses can survive and to ensure that fruit and vegetables keep flowing to customers.

Those of us unable to physically help contribute by purchasing the produce and supporting the enterprises as best we can.
