On the other hand
Living in Israel, one is generally unaware that the calendar is about to flip to 2024.
There are no Boxing Day sales because nobody here, except for Olim from Western Anglo countries, has ever heard of it. What does boxing have to do with shops frantically trying to clear their shelves of merchandise? There are end-of-year “metziahs”, but that is because 31 December is the end of the financial year, and annual stocktaking is in full swing.
Except in the secular bastions of Tel Aviv and other non-religious places, the transition from 2023 to 2024 will be a non-event devoid of fireworks, booze-laden parties and a countdown to midnight.
Israelis generally have far more serious situations to think about at the moment.
FAITHFUL FRIENDS
Dogs are often described as humans’ best friends.
The IDF’s canine unit exemplifies this perfectly. Its highly trained and motivated “troops” have saved countless lives and are an indispensable part of the war against terror and terrorists.
Inevitably, some are critically injured or killed. Demonstrating the intense bond between these dogs and their human colleagues, every effort is made to ensure that life-saving medical treatment is available.
Watch how one such canine trooper is saved thanks to Israeli advanced and innovative medical intervention.
