Usually, the day after we pray for rain at the end of Succot, the heavens open up, and the long-awaited precipitation descends.

This year, after a long and very hot summer, Israel experienced a rare day of rain even before Rosh Hashanah had started. Whether this is an omen for a rainy winter season or just a flash in the pan remains to be seen.

Earthquakes and devastating floods in various parts of the world make one wonder what the coming year will bring,

We can only hope and pray for the best.
