On the other hand

This past Shabbat, we had an inspiring and uplifting experience that put all the negativity currently being spread into a positive perspective.

Birthright and Taglit are two programmes that have influenced many young Jews from assimilated backgrounds to rediscover their Jewish connections. Participating in group activities in Israel and socializing with a variety of Israelis from various ethnic backgrounds has been the catalyst for some amazing personal experiences.

As often happens, one such young man in Israel, for the first time in his life, decided to make aliyah and enlist as a lone soldier. Leaving his siblings and parents behind in the USA, he enlisted in a front-line infantry unit.

In 2014 the Gaza campaign, Protective Edge, commenced, and tragically this young lone soldier lost his life while defending his new homeland against terrorists. His parents, never having previously visited Israel, arrived for his funeral and were looked after by one of our neighbours. Not knowing anyone, they worried that there would not be a minyan for their son’s funeral at the Mount Herzl military cemetery. In one of those “only in Israel” events, over 30,000 Israelis turned up to pay tribute to this young lone soldier who had fallen in a battle against terror.

On their return to the USA, the parents were moved to initiate a campaign to have a Sefer Torah written in memory of their son. This Torah scroll was eventually taken to Israel and ended up in our local Bet Midrash (prayer room), which happens to be our communal air raid shelter. This past Shabbat was the memorial service, and members of his family came to Israel for the Yahrzeit. They were present at our Shabbat services and participated in the weekly reading from the Torah dedicated to the memory of their son and sibling.

Following the service, all the residents of our neighbourhood gathered for a lavish Kiddush and listened to emotional recollections from family members.

It is only when you live in Israel that you can fully understand the deep connections which are forged between lone soldiers, their families and the Land itself.

A TISHA B’AV TOUR

Here is an awesome video produced by the OU which gives an eye opening overview of what took place in Temple times and what has been uncovered today.

The exciting aspect is that when you visit Jerusalem today you can personally see these historical sites for yourself.

In the meantime, this video will help you to understand and enjoy the experience of witnessing history coming to life in front of your eyes.

Another miracle which is happening in our time.

ANOTHER LIE DEMOLISHED

Thanks to a relentless barrage of deliberate disinformation by the media the lies about Israel gain traction.

Here is an account of how a young Palestinian Arab boy’s life was saved by a team of doctors at one of Israel’s top hospitals.

Pass this on to your local Foreign Affairs Minister and send it to newspaper editors. They may well ignore this piece of good news but social media can carry the truth far and wide.

WOW – ANOTHER MYTH EXPOSED

Here is an explosive demolition of the myth of a Palestinian People and a Palestinian Nation.

Instead of hiding behind diplomatic doublespeak and mealy-mouthed responses we should be clearly articulating the uncomfortable truths.

Our past leaders had no hesitation in doing so.

Why are our current politicians reluctant to expose the real facts, especially as the big lies have become the accepted narratives?
