On the other hand

Most countries, including Israel, have designated parking areas reserved for drivers with mobility problems.

Now, in Gush Etzion, just south of Jerusalem, authorities have gone one better. At shopping centres in the area, a certain number of parking spots have been painted bright orange, and notices have been erected proclaiming that these places are now reserved for drivers over the age of seventy.

Although we are still thankfully completely mobile, this thoughtful gesture on the part of the municipalities is very much appreciated by those of us who have passed the seventh decade.

Hopefully, this timely move will shortly be emulated in the rest of the country.

MEET THE NEAR FUTURE

The day is rapidly dawning when it will no longer be necessary to raise large herds of cows and sheep and slaughter them for food.

For Jewish communities living in countries where shechita is banned or where it is no longer economically feasible, this could be a game changer.

Israel, as usual, is in the vanguard of this impending food revolution.
