On the other hand
One of the funniest aspects of life in Israel, at least for English-speaking Olim, are the numerous bloopers that appear when Hebrew notices, signs and instructions are translated.
Over the years, we have enjoyed the mangled translations which appear on road signs and in English-language newspapers and news websites.
Once upon a time, proofreaders were important employees, but it is obvious that these people are now an extinct species with the result that hilarious mistranslations abound.
Take, for example, the following, which appeared in an advertisement in the Jerusalem Post on behalf of Bank Hapoalim. Trying to attract potential mortgage customers, the resultant translation read as follows:
The mortgage hotline is now open for customers of all banks.
FAILURE TO PAY THE LOAN MAY RESULT IN ARREARS INTEREST AND EXECUTION PROCEEDINGS.
It seems that mortgage defaulters will face execution. How long before the UN Human Rights gangs swing into action?
SAVING LIVES
Here is an example of how the Israel apartheid lie is exposed and demolished.
Bedouin communities in the Negev region are being taught how to become first responders and save lives.
TRUTH IS STRANGER THAN FICTION
If you are relying on your local media or post Zionist leftist news sites to get a true perspective on positive developments in Israel you will be seriously misinformed.
Here is a classic example of what is generally ignored by those promoting a warped and negative portrayal of life in Israel.
Who would believe that an Arab-owned restaurant serves food with the highest standard of Kashrut and is popular with all ethnicities?
Just arrived in Israel for a month for a grand daughter’s wedding. My son-in-law has introduced me to the new Channel 14 which is providing a sky rocketting audience with the REAL events in Israel. He’s also told me about how Fox homewares stores and Angel Bakery owners have proudly supported the “strike” against the Government and are subsequently suffering a massive boycott from the local “deplorables”. Our pompous, lefty, Australian roof organisations have no idea of what pertains in Israel except their own doctrinaire ones. There are other “old privilege” and leftist scandals apart from the Court, in Israel. The University entrance system for courses such as Medicine, appear to be loaded against “ordinary” young people. The insistence on using the incredibly difficult “psychometric” exam, after 2-3 years of military or compulsory service away from school is bewildering. There is also a reverse “numerus clausus” which ensures the medical schools are full of Arabs. While facing an imminent demographically caused shortage of doctors – the Russian Olim are retiring – students are being forced to study in Hungary and Croatia to gain access to the medicine courses, denied them in Israel. And it is a serious disadvantage to have a Mizrachi surname, Massive change to the bureaucratic organisations is needed and the increasingly out numbered old guard deny that their days are numbered.
