On the other hand
Have you ever tasted the difference between organically grown vegetables and the commercially available variety in supermarkets?
Every week there is a farmers’ market about five minutes by car from our house which sells not only organic vegetables but also other naturally produced products such as honey, bread, baked foods and cosmetics.
The vegetables vary according to the seasons but the most consistent aspect is the taste. The difference between mass commercial produce available in shops, often weeks old, and fresh out of the ground, pesticide-free vegetables and fruit, is startling. Harvested the previous day these items taste exactly like they used to once upon a time in our youth.
With a greater emphasis these days on healthy eating and the avoidance of harmful chemicals this weekly shopping experience is a most welcome part of our life in Israel.
