Things are hotting up in this part of the world. Summer is kicking in with rising temperatures while regional troublemakers are ensuring that things remain at boiling point. Despite these climatic and political impediments the start up nation continues to thrive.

MORE MEDICAL ADVANCES

An Israeli startup is in the final stages of developing a revolutionary handheld ultrasound device that will allow pregnant women to check on the health of their baby using only a smartphone.

The device can connect to any smartphone, displaying the images on its screen and sending them to the pregnant woman’s personal doctor for examination.

The invention could revolutionise ultrasound tests and the frequency in which expectant mothers check on their unborn child, especially in Israel, where women undergo 6-8 tests on average.

Israeli scientists have developed the first-ever social robot that helps rehabilitation patients improve real-life task performance by playing a game – specifically tic-tac-toe.

An interdisciplinary research team at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev designed a game with a robotic arm to simulate 3D functional activities of daily living – actions people undertake daily, like drinking from a cup, which are often the focus of rehabilitation.

ISRAEL INNOVATION TO HELP UK HOSPITALS

A memorandum of understanding has been signed to bring Israeli health and medical technology innovations to the north of England.

There are well over 1,400 life-science and healthcare companies in Israel whose innovations have the potential to bring great benefits to the North’s hospitals and patient population.

The agreement will further enable British researchers and patients to have access to the latest technology from Israel. It is hoped that even more Israeli medical companies will now look to the UK as a destination for their growth.

SAVING THE BEES

Israel is at the forefront of saving endangered bees. The disappearance of bees could have catastrophic global consequences.

Learn how the fight to save these insects is being waged.
