On the other hand
Climate change may be generating soaring temperatures this northern hemisphere summer but in Israel, there are other factors at work.
With the next round of elections due on 1 November, the political hot air being generated is also a major cause of rising atmospheric heat waves. If the parties involved were actually debating serious policies to alleviate the rise in the cost of living and housing and presenting coherent plans to tackle all the challenges ahead, then we could at least tolerate the temperature rise.
It is the long summer vacation time so hopefully, everyone will return to work and school refreshed and recharged to face the many challenges ahead,
ISRAEL INVADED
As though COVID was not enough of a threat, we now have monkeypox to contend with.
However, in recent weeks we have been invaded by a different sort of menace, which presents Israeli experts with another sort of challenge.
CONQUERING THE DESERT
Conquest of another kind is the story of how Israel is transforming the Negev from an arid and barren wilderness into a thriving and fertile part of Israel.
Just imagine what could be accomplished if those who spend all their foreign aid on trying to destroy Israel instead utilised it to develop and improve the living conditions of their citizens.
Israel continues to lead the way in fulfilling the Biblical prophecy of making the desert bloom again.
NO TRAFFIC JAMS
Traffic congestion is a growing problem in most countries. Alternative means of mass transportation are available but not always feasible.
In Israel, obstacles are meant to be overcome.
Come for a ride on Haifa’s latest answer to commuter frustration and take a ride on the gondola cable car from Haifa University all the way down Mount Carmel to the Haifa Central railway station.
The views alone are worth the ride.
MEDICAL NEWS
Once again, Israeli researchers are paving the way in the fight against various cancers.
The amount of medical research which is undertaken in this country is amazing. Boycotters should note that they do not mistakenly benefit from any discoveries.
COMMUNITY INITIATIVE
My home town of Efrat is known for its green environmental initiatives, one of which is a community garden project.
This was started before the Shmittah year commenced, and planting of trees was still permitted.
Next year it will benefit all the residents and, at the same time, transform barren ground into a flourishing orchard and market garden.
That’s the story of Israel from its earliest pioneering days until the present.
