On the other hand

Israel is in lockdown with most flights from and into the country cancelled and anyone returning from overseas required to self-quarantine for two weeks.

In addition gatherings of more than 100 people are banned which has caused chaos for anyone planning weddings, Bar & Bat Mitzvot as well as Synagogue services. It also means that funerals are restricted and crowded venues such as cinemas, concerts, museums and sports events are also either closed or restricted.

Schools and universities are now closed until after Pesach. If the reaction of our ten-year-old grandson is anything to go by this move will be warmly welcomed by students if not by their parents. Already bus and train services are being affected by a shortage of personnel and supermarkets are trying to cope with anxious customers as many of their workers are in quarantine.

Nobody knows how long this plague will last but it has already decimated the tourist and hotel sectors and ruined the plans of thousands of prospective Passover and Easter visitors.

Is there any good news therefore to report?

Thankfully the answer is yes.
