Oct-25 11am Zoom: Lox and Loaded
NSW Labor Israel Action Committee (LIAC) will kick off its “Lox and Loaded” zoom online speaker series next month with Ron Kampeas – the Washington DC bureau chief of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA) wire service.
Mr Kampeas will speak via zoom on October 25 from 11am to noon – Sydney time.
Mr Kampeas has been covering international affairs for almost 30 years. In 1992, Mr Kampeas joined The Associated Press (AP) in Jerusalem.
For more than 10 years, he worked at AP in its bureaus in Jerusalem, New York, London and, most recently, Washington. He also worked for The Jerusalem Post in Israel. He was made Washington bureau chief of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency in the summer of 2003.
Born in Montreal, Canada, Mr Kampeas is “responsible for coordinating coverage in the American capital and analysing political developments that affect the Jewish world”.
As the JTA correspondent, Mr Kampeas’ articles and analysis are carried in Diaspora and Israeli publications.
LIAC is a group within the NSW Labor Party which promotes a two-state solution and a balanced approach to Israel within the Labor movement.
LIAC co-convenor Lorin Muhlmann said: “Mr Kampeas has been at the centre of American and Israeli politics for almost three decades.”
“We are looking forward to his views and interpretation of the recent events in Israel such as COVID, the normalisation of relations between Israel and the Gulf states of the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.”
“Mr Kampeas will also give us the most up-to-date information on the final days of the Trump-Biden campaign.
“It will be interesting to see his views on a possible second term Trump administration or what a new Biden presidency will mean to Israel and international affairs,” Ms Muhlmann said.
Ms Muhlmann said that Mr Kampeas would be the first in a series of international speakers available through the Labor Israel Action Committee.
