The jury in the trial of Brendan O’Connell, the Perth man who posted a video of an antisemitic confrontation on YouTube has retired to consider its verdict…

Yesterday, the judge in Perth’s District Court had O’Connell placed in a remote room where he could watch the court proceedings without disrupting them. He had access to the court through a microphone controlled by the judge.

A member of O’Connell’s support group was removed from the court following an attempt to make a citizen’s arrest of the judge.

O’Connell is charged with racial hrrassment. The video he posted begins with him leaving his home and catching a ferry to South Perth where he headed for an IGA supermarket at which a peaceful demonstration against the sale of Israeli fruit was in progress. Two young Jewish men also attended to observe the process and were confronted by O’Connell…all captured on his videocam.
