Two of  Melbourne Jewish Care’s Registered Nurses have been awarded prestigious Aged Care Nursing Scholarships, administered by The Royal College of Nursing Australia.

Julie Cray and Mary McHugh

These scholarships are made available by the Commonwealth Government to Australian citizens or permanent residents who are currently working in the aged care sector, to fund training, workforce development and specialist workforce activities.

Mary McHugh, Facility Manager of Smorgon Nursing Home, has been awarded a full scholarship to study a Postgraduate Diploma in Aged Care Management.  Mrs McHugh will study part-time so she can continue in her vital role of leadership at the facility. “This opportunity will give us the practical tools and knowledge to enhance the care, support, love and dignity we deliver to our clients”, she said.

Julie Cray, Clinical Care Coordinator of Smorgon Nursing Home, has been awarded a full scholarship to study a Postgraduate Diploma in Palliative Care.  Ms Cray will complete her studies part-time while continuing her full time and important work at Smorgon Nursing Home.

Both Managers will benefit enormously from their studies, enhancing their skills and expanding and consolidating their knowledge.  Studies of this type will also have a direct benefit for residents and staff of Jewish Care through a deeper understanding and practice by both managers.
