Number of Coronavirus patients in Israel passes 8,000 mark
There are 8,018 diagnosed Coronavirus (COVID-19) patients in Israel, the Ministry of Health updated Sunday morning of whom 137 are in serious condition.
173 of the patients are in moderate condition.
46 Israelis have died of the virus, mostly elderly people with previous illnesses.
The Ultra-Orthodox city pf Beni Brak remained under a complete closure on Sunday after the city has emerged as an epicenter for the outbreak of Coronavirus. A third of those tested for the virus in the city tested positive.
The IDF streamed forces into the city and they engaged in maintaining order and providing humanitarian assistance.
A total count of patients in Israel shows that one in every seven patients is Ultra-Orthodox.
Israel is now monitoring other Ultra-Orthodox cities and eastern Jerusalem and fear similar outbreaks in those areas.
The number of Corona tests in Israel has decreased due to the lack of reagents, a chemical required in the test process.
Ministry of Health spokesman Eyal Basson said stated that “there is a severe global shortage of equipment, and in looking at the rest of the world, despite the shortage, more tests are being conducted in Israel than any other country.”
Reports said that the chemicals may be available as soon as Sunday evening or Monday.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday underwent a test for Coronavirus which came back negative.
Netanyahu and several senior Israeli officials entered a week-long quarantine after coming in contact with Minister of Health Yaakov Litzman, who was diagnosed with Coronavirus on Wednesday night.
The announcement on Litzman’s medical state came hours after Netanyahu exited the quarantine he entered after being exposed to the virus by his aid on ultra-Orthodox issues, who was diagnosed with Coronavirus.
The novel Coronavirus COVID-19 is affecting 206 countries around the world.
At least 1,203,130 cases of Coronavirus have been confirmed worldwide, including at least 65,000 deaths. Some 245,000 have recovered.
