NSW rabbis rail against proposed abortion legislation
The Rabbinical Council of NSW has spoken out about planned changes in abortion legislation in NSW.
In a statement issued yesterday the RCNSW said: “The Rabbinical Council of NSW unequivocally and vehemently opposes projected legislation in NSW to permit abortion on request from a single registered doctor up to 22 weeks gestation and to legalise abortions beyond 22 weeks – by which time an unborn baby can be fully developed – with the simple approval of two doctors.
It believes that in a civilised society founded on Judeo-Christian moral principles, there can be no right to kill unborn babies save in the most limited of circumstances, notably when there is a danger to the life or health (physical or mental) of the mother or in certain cases of proven foetal abnormality.
