Member for Vaucluse Gabrielle Upton has presented Bondi’s Our Big Kitchen a $15,000 cheque as a grant as part of the NSW Government’s Community Building Partnership Program to expand their services and fund important upgrades to their kitchen facilities.

“Our Big Kitchen is a Bondi icon and an outstanding example of the local community coming together to help those less fortunate,” Ms Upton said.

“I am proud that the NSW Government continues to support Our Big Kitchen to ensure that the kitchen meets the growing demand for volunteer-prepared meals, with over 60,000 Australians seeking food assistance each week,” Ms Upton said.

Our Big Kitchen is a community run, non-denominational, industrial kitchen where meals are prepared for distribution to local people in need.

It was founded by Rabbi Doctor Dovid Slavin and Laya Slavin in 2005 and has grown with the generous help of local volunteers, with over 70,000 meals prepared and delivered in 2016 alone.

“With the many challenges we face its very reassuring to know that Gabrielle is never further than a phone call away,” Rabbi Slavin said.

“We welcome this grant that will be put to good use and look forward to our continued partnership with the NSW Government,” Rabbi Slavin said.

The NSW Community Building Partnership continues to support important initiatives in the Vaucluse electorate, with over $200,000 in funding being awarded to local applicants in 2016.
