Lag B’Omer was celebrated in Cairns, Townsville and Emerald for the first time ever this year.

Cairns-based Rabbi Ari Ruben hosted events in Cairns and Townsville with Chabad of Rural and Regional Australia’s Rabbi Yossi Rodal visiting Emerald.

Rabbi Ruben told J-Wire: “The small community up here is thirsty for Judaism. In Cairns we had over 50 join us for the Lad B’Omer celebration including five Israeli backpackers with more than 20 turning up in Townsville. Rather than the traditional bonfires, we pit on barbecues in all the locations with activities for all ages.”
