“No more Jews”
Anti-Defamation Commission chairman Dr Dvir Abramovich is outraged by graffiti appearing in the Melbourne suburbs of Oakleigh and Hughesdale.
He has condemned the appearance of offensive, antisemitic graffiti including swastikas.
The Herld Sun reported that the two spray-painted items recently appeared with one depicting the swastika and another saying ‘no more Jews’.
Dr Abramovich said: “I understand why some members of the Jewish community feel under siege.
It seems that not a day goes by without the defacing of public or private property, either with obscene swastikas, sickening vilification, or genocidal threats directed against the Jewish community.
We cannot allow this stain on our society to become the new normal in our city.”
Dr Abramovich told media the antisemitic vandalism across Melbourne are a reminder there were individuals with “burning hatred” in their hearts walking the streets who sought to intimidate and deny the Jewish community its dignity.
He added: “These troubling attacks are an assault on all people of faith and violate Australia’s core values.”
