The Board of Maroubra Synagogue is seeking to expand its services to the Maroubra community with the announcement that it is looking to engage a part-time Religious Assistant & Program Coordinator.

Maroubra Synagogue President, Evan Koseff said: “Our community has enjoyed sustained growth over the past few years and we are seeking to engage a passionate and pro-active individual to enhance our religious and social offering. The role has a dual focus with the core aspect focused on developing, implementing and delivering ongoing inspirational and engaging educational ideas and programs. Our objective is to increase communal engagement and enable our membership to progress in their Yiddishkeit and through this, strengthen their communal Jewish connection. The creation of this additional role will allow for new initiatives that will further enhance Maroubra’s appeal as a community of choice,” said

Maroubra Shule has a large and active community of over 600 members. Rabbi Yossi Friedman is also involved with Mount Sinai College and serves as a chaplain to the RAAF. “With the many demands this places on our Rabbi, having an additional religious resource focusing on the educational space will allow us to offer our community further learning and Jewish growth opportunities,” he added. The new role will also assist the Rabbi as required with religious duties such as leading services, leining, delivering sermons and assisting with life cycle events.

“Our preference is for one person to fill this dual role but being aware of the challenges in finding suitable candidates, we will remain open to a more flexible approach.”

The Board will pilot the initiative as a 12-month trial and then, based on its success, determine the way forward. The role will be part-time (approximately 15 hours per week).
