New principal for Kesser Torah
Sydney’s Kesser Torah College has appointed Rabbi Yaacov Chaiton as its new College Principal.
Rabbi Chaiton’s appointment comes after a six-month-long search which included the engagement of specialist recruitment companies in both Australia and the USA in conducting a global search.
Several highly qualified candidates went through an intensive selection process including multiple interview rounds with both the selection committee and external educators, but it was Rabbi Chaiton who clearly demonstrated the outstanding leadership qualities and credentials necessary for this important role.
Holding extensive experience in multiple and varied roles across the College since 2010, Rabbi Chaiton is currently the Deputy Principal of the College, as well as Head of Jewish Studies in the High School. He has broad support from staff across the College, the parent body, and students alike, and has a strong relationship with outgoing College Principal Mr Roy Steinman, who has, and will continue to be, a mentor to him in this new role.
“It is an honour and a profound privilege to play a part in the journey of this unique institution,” Rabbi Chaiton said. “KTC is a school that with the guidance of the Torah, continues to push the frontiers of what is possible in Jewish and General knowledge. Kesser Torah students believe in themselves, because they know their teachers believe in them.”
President of the Kesser Torah College Board, Shaul Shapiro, added that “during the interview process, Rabbi Chaiton was the stand-out candidate, impressing with his incisive analysis, emotional intelligence and forward-looking vision for the school. He is incredibly passionate about KTC and driving it to achieve even greater success in the years ahead.”
Under Mr Steinman’s six-year leadership, Kesser Torah College has seen extensive growth across many facets of the school, including in the areas of enrolments, subject choices and in education outcomes. The College prides itself on its dual curriculum program, strong HSC results in both Secular and Torah Studies and its nurturing and embracing culture.
Its unique features within the Sydney landscape of a community school run under a Chabad ethos include students whose observance ranges from strictly Orthodox to traditional and non-observant with a strong staff cohort who role model Jewish living. The curriculum includes an Informal Jewish Education program in both the Primary and High Schools, and the College has a young and innovative Board that provides a strong foundation for the continued growth of KTC.
