New president for Progressive Judaism Victoria
Maureen Barten has been elected president of Progressive Judaism Victoria.
Philip Bliss has completed his second four-year term in the position.
Maureen Barten said: “I believe wholeheartedly that for our children to have choices about how and where they express and experience their Judaism – is entirely dependent on our engagement today. And that is why I have for 11 of the 12 years I’ve been here, been engaged in communal leadership.
What we do or don’t do today will make a difference on tomorrow.”
She added: “I am looking forward to an action-packed few years where we each challenge ourselves to grow past comfort and familiarity and move well beyond yesterday – and let it stay there.
Our recent past has been fraught with challenges and, frankly, very trying times for all of us. With huge thanks to our past board and committee, superbly lead and guided by Philip Bliss, our community has come back together, and we are moving forward together – one step at a time. And the momentum is already in motion.”
