New leader for the Commonwealth Bank

The new Chief Executive of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia is a former youth leader in the Auckland Jewish Community.

Ian Narev

 

The 44-yr-old joined the bank in 2007 and will assume his new responsibilities in December when he takes over from Ralph Norris.

A TV star at the of 12, Narev won the Auckland University senior prize in law together with a scholarship to Cambridge.

A member of the Auckland community told J-Wire: “Ian’s parents are extremely active in the dissemination of Holocaust Studies throughout New Zealand and their Zionist activities date back to the beginnings of Habonim shortly after the movement’s formation.”

Narev is married with two children.

Media reports state that he underwent leadership training on a Kibbutz in Israel in 1990.

Stephen Goodman, president of the Auckland Jewish Council added: “Ian is a  very good person.  His father and mother both Holocaust survivors.”
