A New Home for Sir John Monash Exhibition in the Heart of Caulfield
Comprising of striking photographs and thematic panels, the Shrine of Remembrance’s Sir John Monash exhibition has successfully toured around Victoria for many years.
In 2016, when the Shrine of Remembrance was unable to continue storing the memorabilia, a variety of local historical societies and museums tendered to accept it.
Luckily, the Victorian Association of Jewish Ex & Servicemen and Women in Australia (VAJEX) was chosen to become the recipient of the collectables.
“I was thrilled that VAJEX Australia was selected to become the new owner of the Monash exhibition. We invite the community to get inspired by Sir John’s life and learn about Jewish service people and their roles in war and as peace keepers,” Judy Landau, the President of VAJEX Australia, said. “As a predominantly survivor community aware of tremendous war atrocities, it’s important for us to pass on the importance of gratitude for the sacrifice of our service personnel to younger people.”
The exhibition is permanently located outside the VAJEX Australia headquarters at Beth Weizmann Jewish Community Centre, at the Lamm Jewish Library of Australia (LJLA).
Featuring informative text panels and unique imagery about Australia’s iconic General who was also the first President of the Zionist Federation of Australia, the exhibition is a great addition to the vibrant community precinct.
To make this summer more meaningful for adults and kids alike, head to LJLA. The exhibition is open for public viewings during regular library hours at 304 Hawthorn Rd, Caulfield South.
