Dr Rebecca Kummerfeld

In this position, Rebecca leads a team of inspiring and passionate education staff and volunteers, including 37 Holocaust survivors who speak daily to school and adult groups.

Under Rebecca’s leadership, the Education Department will run a broad range of tailored and syllabus specific seminars and tours for more than 27,000 students this year, and industry-approved training courses for 2,000 teachers both in the Museum and interstate.

Prior to accepting her new position, Rebecca worked as an Educational Officer at the Museum for 18 months. Rebecca has a Master of Teaching and has taught in schools, university and museums. Rebecca completed a PhD in history and education, focusing on the history of public art education in museums and galleries. Before joining the Sydney Jewish Museum, Rebecca managed the Learning Team at North Lincolnshire Museum Service in England, where she oversaw the learning programs that catered for a diverse audience range.

Museum CEO Norman Seligman says: “We have recorded remarkable growth in student and adult visitors this past financial year.

We look forward to building upon these numbers as we continue to expand the Museum’s programs and reach. I have no doubt that the Education Department will continue to flourish under Rebecca’s capable leadership”.
