In a brilliant new initiative, residents of Jewish aged care facilities around the world are using the Internet to create a new social network.

Melbourne residents of the Gary Smorgon House talk to Ohio

Last week, residents of Melbourne’s Jewish Care’s Gary Smorgon House used Skype to join the Gam Yachad [Also Together] project linking them with the residents of Ohio’s Menorah Park Centre for Senior Living.

The residents in the two homes exchanged stories about their lives and personal histories before joining in a song. Jewish Care Minister Rabbi Yoseph Nerenberg said: “The favourite topic of conversation was food!” He added: “We have established a relationship to build in the future. This is an ongoing project between staff members and residents/clients of both organisations.”

Gam Yachad’s mission is to encourage people to share stories, educate about residential care facilities and organisations and to connect Jewish people around the world.
