New face at AIJAC
Former Australian Jewish News journalist Gareth Narunsky has joined the Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council’s Sydney office as the organisation’s National Media Liaison officer.
He replaces Anthony Orkin, who held the position for the past five years and has moved to London.
A well-known and popular figure in the Sydney Jewish community, Narunsky joined the Australian Jewish News in 2010 and became a senior journalist in 2013.
“The Australian Jewish News provided me with excellent training and wonderful opportunities to interact with the Jewish community, and AIJAC is giving me a platform to work both within and outside this community”, Narunsky said.
Having reported on political issues and challenges such as antisemitism, terrorist threats and the complexities of inter-communal relations “I am looking forward to advocacy of the principles the community holds dear”, he added.
Jeremy Jones, the Director of AIJAC’s Sydney Office said “Gareth brings commitment, experience and energy to a demanding position, and it is great to have him in the team”.
Dr Colin Rubenstein, AIJAC’s Executive Director, emphasised that “never before have the politics and media in Australia gone through so many rapid changes”, saying “We look forward to Gareth helping ensure that the pro-Israel voice is heard and respected”.
